FAQs

What workloads run on data center servers?

Data center servers are designed to run a variety of workloads, including:

Web hosting – Used to host websites and web applications, these workloads require significant processing power and memory, as well as a reliable, highspeed internet connection.

Cloud computing – Used to provide cloud computing services, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure. Cloud computing enables businesses to rent computing resources on-demand, offering a more cost-effective solution than buying and maintaining on-premises servers.

Big data – Storage and processing of large data amounts requires significant processing power and memory. These workloads are often required in the financial, healthcare and retail industries.

Virtualisation – Used to run virtual machines, which are software-based representations of physical devices. These workloads enable organisations to run multiple operating systems and applications on a single server, saving physical space and cutting overheads. Virtualisation requires significant storage space and processing power, as well as a reliable, disruption-free, high-speed internet connection.

Storage – Used in circumstances such as disaster recovery, digital security and archival, storage server workloads are used to store data such as files, databases, images, and code. They can be accessed by users on a network or backed up for disaster recovery purposes.

In addition to these general workloads, server vendors such as ASUS and Gigabyte offer customised applications and workloads. For example, if a digital security organisation requires a server to be configured with additional security features than one required by a retail company.

Specific workloads depend on the requirements or needs of the business, organisation or data center that owns it. However, the brands Panchaea offers can run a variety of workloads, making them a versatile and power choice for data centers and businesses of all sizes.

Do you sell fully stuffed or barebones servers?

We offer both fully stuffed and barebones servers.

Fully stuffed servers come with all the necessary components, including:

  • CPU
  • RAM
  • Storage
  • Operating system(s)

This is the most convenient option, as you can simply plug and play the server. However, it is often the most expensive choice.

Barebones servers do not come with any components. They arrive with the cassis, motherboard, and power supply. This is the most inexpensive option, but you will need to purchase other components separately. This enables you to fully customise the server to meet your specific needs.

What are the different types of data center servers?

We currently offer four different data center server types, each designed to meet specific requirements.

GPU Compute Servers

GPU compute servers have one or more graphics processing units (GPUs). They offer increased power and speed for running computationally intensive tasks such as:

  • Video rendering
  • Data analytics
  • Machine learning
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)

GPU compute servers are well suited for these tasks because they can process large data sets in parallel. These servers are often used by:

  • Video game developers for rendering high-quality game graphics
  • Data scientists for training and deploying machine learning models
  • Financial institutions for analysing large financial data sets
  • Healthcare providers for processing medical images and data
  • Autonomous vehicle manufacturers for developing and testing autonomous driving software

Storage Servers

Storage servers are specifically designed to store and manage data. They are typically used by businesses requiring storage of significant data files, such as:

  • Videos
  • Images
  • Documents

Storage servers can be used for backup and disaster recovery services, or to host file sharing and collaborative applications. These servers are often used by:

  • Media and entertainment companies to store large amounts of video, audio, and image data. Additionally, they use them to create and distribute content, or to archive and prepare historical records.
  • Ecommerce retailers to store product catalogues, customer orders, and other data.
  • Financial institutions for storing significant financial data volumes that are used to process transactions, manage accounts, and providing financial services.
  • Healthcare organisations for storing patient records, medical images, and other healthcare data.
  • Government agencies use them to store data, such as tax records, census data, and other sensitive information.

Liquid Immersion Servers

Liquid immersion servers are submerged in dielectric liquids, such as mineral oil or fluorocarbon. These liquids are ideal heat conductors, providing exceptional heat removal for servers. Liquid immersion provides significant advantages over traditional cooling methods, including:

  • Increased efficiency
  • Noise reduction
  • Enhanced reliability

Custom Servers

Custom servers are anything but “off-the-shelf”. They enable organisations to build a server designed to meet their specific needs, with varying components or configurations. These customisations can be hardware or software and are often chosen to suit a requirement or workload.
